Amtrak Diesels and "The Silver Lady"

During Amtrak's early "Rainbow" era, colorful locomotive lash-ups and multi-color passenger car consists were common. As is seen in this Don Crimmin photo, a westbound Amtrak California Zephyr is led in to Denver by a mix of ex-Burlington Northern and Union Pacific E8As on 16 April 1973. The lead E-unit will soon shed its old 9942 number in favor of becoming Amtrak 337. (Don Crimmin photo)
